reyems Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Hope this makes sense...Highlighting an object brings up quick properties which lets me know this object resides on a particular layer. Working in the Layer Manager, turning this layer on / off or freeze/ thaw will not cause this object to appear / disappear. However, turning off a different layer does cause the object to disappear. Why?! The object happens to be a block reference if that matters. Quote
lpseifert Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Sounds like the elements of the block reside on different layers and/or are different than the layer on which the block was inserted. Quote
reyems Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 How does this happen and is there a way to change it? Quote
lpseifert Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Change it? Redefine the block (does LT have Bedit?). I almost always make my blocks on layer 0, color Byblock, linetype Byblock. This way they assume the layer, color and linetype of the layer they're inserted on and gives the ability to later edit the color and linetype. There may be particular reasons for using different layers, colors and linetypes within a block, but I don't run into them too often. Quote
Peter K Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 reyems, Are you sure that freezing the layer on which the block resides doesn't make the block disappear ? The reason I ask is because all the rest you tell us makes one think of the solution that Ipseifert mentioned except for that fact. Or I'm overlooking something. Quote

A block can contain many layers, so even though the block itself is on a layer, those layers within the block will still remain visible, even if you turn Off the layer that the block is on. Use Freeze/Thaw instead of On/Off. Quote
