dimlinear and Area problems??

Hello, I have a dwg file im viewing in autocad 2009...

All im trying to do is take some basic measurements. Everything is set to architectural.

It is a building so its just a bunch of squares (rooms)... When I use dim linear to get the dimensions of each wall everything works fine (such as a 8x10 room) But what I would like to do is use the 'area' function to get the area of specific areas instead of adding everything up myself manually.

but when I use the Area function I get a weird answer

Example: I have a 42'x13' room, when i use the area function the answer I get is .0154 square feet

Anyone know if Im doing something wrong or what I can do to fix it

Thanks

Are you in Paper space when running the Area command? Try it from Model space.
