TheCan Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Hi! A colluage of mine has a been working in a file without any problems, but now we can't open it. When trying to open the file a message box with the text "Drawing file is not valid" appear. Trying to open the file with RECOVER a box with "Unable to recover drawing file" pops up. Any suggestions on how to open/rescue the file? Quote
feargt Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 You can try the following. Open a new drawing and try to insert the problem drawing as a block into your new drawing. This will only insert the model space objects into the new drawing so any layouts etc will not come in. But you can try to insert these by inserting by using the "from Template" option by right clicking on a layout in the new drawing and selecting the problem drawing and then selecting the layouts that you want to bring in. TheCan Posted April 3, 2009 Author Posted April 3, 2009 I tried do insert and it didn't work. But I managed to solve the problem. I found a .bak file and made it a dwg. The new file opened without any problem. Quote
Ritch7 Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 yeh back up files are excellent I always use them, you can turn them on/off by options, save and tick the box bottom left hand side. always handy if something goes wrong Quote
