kippax Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 i have accidently imported some blocks in the incorrect layer. I've corrected this by highlighting them and them opening the desired layer in the drop down box. However, they are still exhibiting the properties of the previous incorrect layer. i.e. freezing with that previous layer and also not printing (as that is the setting I have for the previous layer. I'm convinced ythey are on the correct layer as that is the layer that now appears in the drop down box when i highlight them .. Help please:? !! Quote
MaxwellEdison Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Is the block itself created on layer 0? If not, those objects in the block will still be controlled by their individual layers. Quote
kippax Posted April 7, 2009 Author Posted April 7, 2009 so does that mean I can use block editor to change their layer ? Quote
kippax Posted April 7, 2009 Author Posted April 7, 2009 OK... so if I've got this right.... Components of a block could be in one layer The block itself could be in a second layer ...but the block could also be inserted onto a drawing on a third layer ?.... ....If all that's is correct.. then when you change your layer properties in a particular drawing... which takes priority ? (In case nobody has guesses... I'm getting a bit in above my head now ) Quote
MaxwellEdison Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 No, there are only two levels. The layer the components of the block are on, and the layer the block is inserted on. The block itself has no intrinsic layer. When a block is inserted into a drawing, all the layers used in that block are brought in with it (which is why it's a good idea to create blocks with WBLOCK as it will get rid of the unused ones). If one of those layers exists in the host file already it will not be overwritten and the components of the block on that layer will display those properties. Layer 0, however, is a special case. Objects on layer 0 within a block will take on the properties of the layer which the block is inserted on (as if color, linetype, lineweight, etc. were all set to ByBlock rather than ByLayer). Quote
