Autosave file not opening

Recommended Posts

Hey there, a file I've been working on all morning just crashed and ya...I was clueless and wasn't saving very often.

So I've found my autosave file but everytime I try to rename it it just ends up going "filename.dwg.$ac".

It doesn't seem to want to turn it back into a .dwg. Anyone know how to fix this?

I'm use 2004 Land Desktop

There is a setting in windows folder options that prevents you from editing the extension of some file types. I'm guessing you found this to be your remediation?

For future reference,

1. Always save on a regular basis

2. if i have this problem i use the DRAWINGRECOVERY command

to give me the drawing recover manager.

Hope it helps :)

also, if you find the solution on your own, please report what it was - others could be asking the same question.

I'd say he had the Windows Explorer set to 'Hide extensions for Known Filetypes' turned on (the silly bloody default of Windows). I've seen that do it to people far too many times.

Oh, and by the way - he's using 2004. I don't think the DRAWINGRECOVERY command existed back then (I think it came in 2005, but I stand corrected)

You may be right, When I first started learning AutoCAD, i was only using 2004 for a month before the college upgraded to '06.
