Software for architectural modelling

Hey, as you can tell i am new here and i noticed that everyone here has quite a bit to offer information wise. So i figured i would ask since i am new to 3D modeling. What softwares would you recommend for doing architecture modeling?? Thanks in advance you all your input.

There are many different programs available and everyone has their own opinions. And these programs range in price from free to very expensive. Some are very easy to learn and others have a very steep learning curve. You just have to figure out which is best for you, depending on your budget and how much time you have to learn, and become proficient with the program.

Your profile says you've never used Autocad, so what programs have you used?

What kind of training/experience do you have with CAD or 3D Modeling?

Is this for work or personal use?

If you're a complete beginner, then I would suggest you download the free version of Sketchup and the Kerkythea renderer and play with that for a while to find out if you even like doing this type of work before you spend any money on expensive software.

We do modeling where i work, but i am new to that side. I currently work on CMM's and they want me to transition to the modeling side and as far as the architecture goes i just like architecture. I currently use Rhino and i ahve used autocad back in high school which was a long time ago. But we also have mechcanical desktop, alibre, rapidform, and a few others to use but i am wanting something at home to use and i will say with a medium learning curve. Also and ideas on computer set-ups that you would recommend? I hope that answers some questions.

So, isn't Rhino capable of doing architectural modeling? I've never really used it.

I use Autocad and 3D Studio Max.

Rhino is a nurbs based modeling environment.

I would check out some of the autodesk products(ive never used any of their architecture stuff). If you go to their website most softwares have a 30 day free trial and it would give you a feel for it. It really is going to depend on what you want to draw. Arch based softwares will be much more efficient for modeling just that, but it can still be done in other packages.

I am trying to find some software that works on a mac....

Is revit not best for architecture and modelling exteriors etc?

Im sure it basically draws the bones of the 3d for you once you have done a 2d plan.
