How can you utilize Autodesk Vault?

Sorry for this generic question I'm posting, but it seems from 2008 version and above this autodesk vault seems to have appeared, and i cant quite figure out what it is.

 

It seems it must be some kind of distribution and safekeeping of CAD drawings but i do not know what it's powers are and if i can take advantage of it.

 

So who does this application concern?
