Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone can help me with a problem I'm having with ACAD2009. I have a rectangular PLINE with smaller squares inside that are openings in a floor. When I try to extrude this the floor comes up empty and the holes as solids which is precisely the opposite of what I want...any ideas?

It sounds to me that your outer line is possibly not a closed poly line. Use the PEDIT command to close the existing outer profile. Once you extrude it, you will need to use the SUBTRACT command to get your desired effect.

If i understand correcty you need to subtract the smaller squares....There are two ways you can do this:

1.Convert the closed polylines into regions by typing "REGION" in the command line. After that subtract the small squares form the big one.Extrude.

2.Extrude the small squares a little bit more than the big one.Subtract them from the big one.

Edit: Secretagdan is right. You need to see want's going on with the outer line. And then procede.

Yeah, I had used the pedit command and it showed as one line when I ran the cursor across it, so I exploded it and filleted all the corners with a 0 radius to make sure they were closed then re-did a PEDIT and extruded it...worked like a charm...I think you´re right that it wasn't totally closed. Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it.
