When orbiting, object moves out of the screen?

Can somebody please tell me why sometimes when I orbit an object (View -> 3D Orbit), the object goes out of view? I need the object to stay put so I can see all sides while rotating it.

It's because your focal point is somewhere beyond the object you want to view. Sometimes, zooming in to your object really close will help center the focus on it. Otherwise you need to manually change your camera settings.

What's a focal point? What should I do? Newbie here, please be more specific. Thanks =)
