Hi,

being new to these boards I'm quite impressed by what I see here :)

I can see myself being quite a regular :P

Anyway, I have a question...

I have made a mistake on an assignment for college, and will have a limited time to correct it tonight.

Basically we had to create a block, with attributes attached, however I used the same layer for both the outline drawing and the text - the text should have been on separate 'attribute' layer before it was made into a block.

I use AutoCAD 2006 at work, and it seems easy enough to simply double-click on the block which then brings up the dynamic block screen (or whatever it's called), then change the layers there and save. However at college we use an older version of AutoCAD (I think it's 2002 or 2004), and I'm quite sure it doesn't do this when I double-click on a block.

I have found that typing 'bedit' also brings up the dynamic block screen - will using this command on the older version allow me to change the attribute layer then save it in a similar fashion?

Thanks in advance, and feel free to offer an alternative method!

I think on the older versions, you can use REFEDIT, instead of BEDIT.

Also, when changing anything about attributes within your block; once you are happy with the changes and your block is 'saved'; use ATTSYNC to regenerate the changes to your block.

probably - give it a try. 8)

when you change anything to do with attributes, you may have to issue an ATTSYNC to get the changes to stick.

If BEDIT doesn't work, WBLOCK the drawing into a file of its own and make the changes you want there. Then INSERT the new copy by navigating to its file and accept the regen. Once the regen has happened you can ESC the command or just delete the new block after placing it. Again you may have to ATTSYNC to update the attributes correctly.

beaten again, if only work hadn't come along then I'd have been first!!!!

Thanks guys,

both very helpful.

I've never used the REFEDIT command, just tried it out and it worked :)

As for the WBLOCK method... as part of the assignment I've had to make both a BLOCK and WBLOCK to move between files, so both will have to be edited/redone.

I'm fairly new to attributing, so the ATTSYNC command is something I was aware of but never used, at least now I know what it does!

Thanks again. :D
