Updating text

Hi

I want to add a line which says scale 1 : X on the layouts. I only want to create one textline, and when I have f.ex 4 viewports, it has to automatically adapt to the scale it's on.

I know it is possible, I only can't figure out how to?

As far as im aware you would need a complex LISP routine to carry out such a command.

No, no, it sounded easier than that

It's not exactly text, it was more like a tag, and a few options were available. Like f.ex filename, date of saving etc, and these updated automatically. Scale factors were an option aswell...

If I could only remember how it was done...

you should be able to do it with a FIELD. Another possibilitiy is with annotative text but I don't use that so can't comment.

I agree with dbraoda, start your text, right click select insert field and then you can link it to your viewport just scroll throuh the options til you find viewport and the format you want it in

To be quick, if normal older style text, I use COPY command and then copy the last line of text. Pull it down a spaced amount, (Hit ORTHO to align edges perfectly) and the hit the line of text again, and use the changing format to alter the text line once more to what you want it to read. All of five seconds once you get used to the routine.

COPY, move into postion, then change the text.

when i right-click in the text field, I don't get "Insert > Field" and I can't select "insert" in the toolbar, ...

is there some kind of option that I have turned on/off?

I think the FIELD options came in with v2006, possibly 2008. It would appear it wasn't available with 2004.
