criehle Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I'm working on a dwg that seems to be getting bigger in file size even though I'm not really adding much new data to the drawing but just making edits. Is there a standard for how big you should let a dwg get before you encounter problems? or is there a certain range of size that anyone could suggest to stay under to aviod problems? Thanks AutoCAD Map 2009 Quote
criehle Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 24.90 MB which seems big and I don't want to end up with something going wrong with the drawing or performance b/c of its size. Quote
StevenMc Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 are you able to purge the drawing? we have large drawings in my office but not as large as yours so im not too sure what happens in that case. i've had drawings at 14 MB and AutoCad can get quite slow so can't imagine the performance at 25MB Quote
ReMark Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Is your computer up to the task of dealing with large drawings? Things like plenty of RAM, high-end graphics card, etc? Does Map 3D have the Partiaload command and if so are you making use of it? Are you making efficient use of layers by controlling which ones are thawed and frozen? Quote
ReMark Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 The largest drawing I've worked with was 34MB. It was a 3D model. Until I swapped out video cards I had a little trouble pushing it around in anything other than 2D wireframe. Quote
criehle Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 The computer seems to be handling the size fo the drawing fine b/c I have plenty of RAM and a higher end viedo card. I'm controlling which ones are thawed and frozen b/c it helps with performance; does that help control size? I havn't heard of the PARTIALLOAD? I just want to make sure I don't end up with a currupt drawing or some unforseen problems b/c of the size of the drawing. Quote
rkent Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Check on layer filters and scale list, delete the ones you don't need. Use -purge, Regaps. Maybe those will help. Quote
ReMark Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Yep, layer filters. That's the one I forgot. rkent for the save! Quote
rkent Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 also go to Autodesk Knowledge Base http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=2886521&linkID=9240617 Quote
BIGAL Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Even though you have purged check some of the blocks in your drawing make sure that they are being used and not just a dot in the drawing particuarly any AC$DF45HH etc blocks copied from other drawings these can be big. Quote
