I have done a basic drawing and noted dims. I have gone to plot and find a very small drawing from veiwport meant to be A1 size ready to print. When i try scaling up ,my dims double and treble in size.

How can i enlarge drawing and plot without changing anything that is drawn

It sounds like your dimensions were drawn in model space and you did not use annotative dimensions. Correct? Just trying to get a clear understanding of what you did and where (model vs. paper space).

If thers not many dimenions you may want to drawing them in paperspace with a custom dimstyle. You can do this by adding a new dimstyle and setting the linetype scale to what your drawing is. i.e 50.000 for 1:50. Don't forget to have your viewport scaled correctly thou! Check out the tutorials on dimensions here for a more detailed breakdown of them :)

I think annotative dimensioning was introduced in AutoCAD 2008. From AutoDesk: "The annotation scale controls the size of the annotative objects relative to model geometry in the drawing." Thus, one can have several viewports depicting model space objects at different scales without creating "multiple annotations at different sizes and on separate layers..."

Another option is to place all your dimensions in paper space. Just make sure your dimensions are associative. Per AutoCAD Help:

"In the Options dialog box, User Preferences tab, under Associative Dimensioning, select...Make New Dimensions Associative."

That way if you change the length of a line for example the dimension will be updated to reflect the new (correct) length.
