Keep layers frozen in xref

Hi to all,
I have a little issue with xrefs in on of my drawings. It is not really an issue for say, but I am freezing many layers in those xrefs (about 20 layers) but every time I refelesh the xrefs, I have to go refreeze all the layers again. I think I have heard of a comment or option that would allow me to keep the layers frozen even when I am refreshing the xrefs. Anyone knows how I could achieve this.

Have you tried the VISRETAIN variable? Set it to 1 to retain the Layer Settings independant from the XREF
