Jacky Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Hi, I am trying to build a residential house as a practice project. However, I don't know if I should build my roof out of a solid object, (or perhaps surface, or some other types of objects). I want to be able to render it. However, I found that some shapes are really hard to build from solid objects. it's much easier to build a non-solid pyramid of my desired shape out of 3D pyramid. Is there a similar method to 3D pyramid for solid building where I can click a few points to build a irregularly shaped pyramid? or do people usually build their roof differently? so. 1. solid roof? 2. if so, easier ways? thanks a lot Quote
Jacky Posted June 27, 2009 Author Posted June 27, 2009 ic ReMark, may i ask if that's the convention, or is it just easier? Quote
Teeds Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 Jacky: I generally construct a wireframe, but then I am a bit touched perhaps. Seriously, the wireframe forces me to analyse all the various planes of the roof and make sure that they can actually be constructed. If you choose a wire frame, you will have to cover it with 3d faces once you have completed the layout or convert it to a solid ... which I have never done ... although there is likely a way to do it. With solids, you can build the major roof element and add or subtract the various bits to end up with the form you need. If you have a hip, subtraction from your solid is the simpliest way to create the hip. I have fouund once the wireframe is done, I can extrude the parts or add faces in about the same time. For me it all depends on whether or not I am going to render it or just create a line drawing. Quote
Jacky Posted June 27, 2009 Author Posted June 27, 2009 ic Teeds, i'll try that wireframe method. thanks Quote
ReMark Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 It was just a suggestion since you find constructing a complex roof using solids to be problematic. Quote
BIGAL Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 You can use pface to create a "plane" shape your roof must meet though as true inclined planes then just use hide to make it solid and non see through. Start with end ridges in true 3d then add valleys etc sorry due to copyright can not give you program to do it. Includes hips valleys gables etc Quote
