cmjay83 Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Hi guys I'm having a problem opening a dwg file in inventor. I am using autocad 2007 and want to open that dwg in inventor 2010. When I try to open it, it says " it is already opened or being used" (in so many words) and it won't let me open it? Will appreciate reply Cheers, Quote
JD Mather Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Is it already open in AutoCAD? Can you attach the dwg here? Quote
cmjay83 Posted June 29, 2009 Author Posted June 29, 2009 It isn't open in autocad , it doesn't say attach drawing just open Cheers. Quote
JD Mather Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Once again, can you zip and attach the file here so that othes can try? Quote
JD Mather Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 how do I attach it in here? In Windows Explorer find the filename. Right click on the filename and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder. Start a reply to this thread and click on the Paper Clip Icon to find the file *.zip file to attach. I think you might need 10 posts here first. If so simply ask a few more questions first. Quote
cmjay83 Posted June 30, 2009 Author Posted June 30, 2009 In Inventor 2010 can you create a drawing from assembly? or does it have to be from a part file? Thanks Quote
JD Mather Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Yes, you can create a drawing from an assembly. If you set your current Project to Tutorials or Samples you should see several examples. Quote
cmjay83 Posted July 1, 2009 Author Posted July 1, 2009 In inventor 2010 I am mainly wanting to design steel fabrications. Is there an option where I can load or insert a piece of material i.e an I-beam and will it work out the weight of the fabrication for me? Thanks Quote
cmjay83 Posted July 1, 2009 Author Posted July 1, 2009 how many posts do I need before I can load up a drawing on this forum? Thanks Quote

Thanks Yes, right click on the top node of the browser and select iProperties for weight. You can get standard shapes like I-beams from Content Center or Frame Generator. Quote
