Does anyone here have a working knowledge of both PC and MAC drawing programs? I work regularly with arch's that draw in Vectorworks on MAC platform and, having very little knowledge of this side of things, I am wondering about the conversion between the two.

I regularly get drawings that have 50+ layers with no information in their names; half the time only 4 or 5 of them actually contain any data; none of the irrelevant layers are frozen/turned off; xref are never properly aligned...you get the idea.

I'm wondering if something happens in the transfer or if the guys drawing them are just idiots....I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt but I can tell you from my meetings and phone conversations with them, I'm having doubts....

There is a VectorWorks viewer available for the PC; it is free, also. Without checking, I am not sure if it converts from VectorWorks to other formats (probably quite doubtful).

But yes, in any kind of conversion there are usually things that don't work out quite right.

Having seen some of the conversion outputs from VectorWorks to AutoCAD, I can fully sympathise with your predicament.

Would it be worth your while visiting their office to see how they convert, or indeed for you to assist them in producing what you want them to do ?

No, I have done this myself from time to time and I think that you are correct in thinking that the users have bad drawing habits.
