Hi, is there a way to use Inventor files (ipt, iam) in 3ds Max 2010 if don't have Inventor installed on your computer ??

I've tried converting Inventor to IGES but it doesn't load properly in Max.

Yes, that is why I'm asking. I want to know if there is an alternative if you don't have Inventor. I hear they (Autodesk) are going to change this, but this is a few releases away apperently.

Is this something you need to do on a regular basis? Maybe you need to pick up a copy of Inventor? If it's just a one time thing, try downloading the trial version.

Or, if you don't want to fork over $5k to Autodesk for Inventor, you could check out PolyTrans by Okino. It supposedly can make the conversion from Inventor to Max, for only around $500.

I've found a way. In Inventor go to the Application pulldown and then choose AEC Exchange, then choose the AutoCad option. You now have a 3D drawing which you can import in 3ds Max.

This works in Inventor 2009.
