about drawing a Tangent Line

Hi All,

We know we can just draw one Tangent line on a specific point on an Arc or a Circle.

I know where is my specific point but I don't know why I can't use "Tangent Constraint" properly for doing that!

Can somebody help me please?

Cheers

Is your tangent selected as one of your o-snaps?

yes it is on.

try this for me please,

draw an arc, then draw a tangent line on one of it's ends and tell me how I can do that.

Heres what I did and my results:

I drew an arc as you said. I turned OFF all of my o-snaps and made sure that TANGENT is the only one left on.

I went to draw a line, AutoCAD resisted that there was an arc present, (showed the tangent symbol) the from the end of the arc and nothing happened. As expected, but when I added a circle I was able to draw the tangent line.

Do have a circle or arch to attach the line to?

Added stuff:

I used AutoCAD ADT 2004.

Try drawing your line immediately after drawing the arc; at the prompt 'Specify first point:' hit enter.

Great suggestion :)

However, should you need to draw a tangent to the opposite end point of the arc, draw a line from the centre of the arc to the endpoint of the arc, and rotate it so it becomes a tangent

Or....

Draw a temporary line from the center of the arc to the endpoint of (or any point on) the arc; align the UCS to the temporary line (UCS > OBject); turn on Ortho and draw your tangent line.

I second NBC,

The quickest way to draw a line tangent to a specific point on an arc or circle is to draw a line from that point to the centre, rotate the line 90deg. at the point, and then extend it to the length you want.
