years ago you could attach by layer and everything on that layer then took on the material, what give with acad09??

is the 3DFACE the one your looking for?

no, i have a series of solid models that i have created into blocks, and using the BCOUNT command, i can count the total of blocks used in the drawing.

This then poses a problem as i would like to know how to attach a material to the object, whilst retaining the solid as a block. you used to be able to attatch materials to objects on a layer, or colour years ago, which was great when you had models as blocks, anything on that layer would take on the properties of the applied material / map

also, 2nd part of my question, Block editor, well it sucks @ss. when you double click on a block, block editor opens, but will not allow you to change views or orbit, and by doing so, you cant work on 3d items without pain.

i just wished autodesk would stop messing with commands and tools that have been working fine for previous versions, and keep developing useless cr@p commands such as sheet manager and multileader tools

my rant over, well for now.

reading the help file, i can understand what autodesk are trying to do with Dynamic Block tools and the like, but it does not explain why it locks to plan or top view everytime.

pretty much trying to keep up with sketchup

The block editor was introduced with dynamic blocks, as a way of creating and editing them. And since you can't create dynamic 3D blocks, what would be the point of incorporating 3D elements to the editor? Try using REFEDIT. Seems to work fine for me.

thats the one, previous versions, 2005,2006 would open refedit with a double click on the block.

operator headgap adjustment needed i thinks

Thanks for that, it was what i was after.
