StevenMc Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 hi, i am new to 3D in autocad so i have been trying lots of different things. with some help i have managed to put together this Royal Navy T45 destroyer. does anyone have any suggestions on how i could render this? i have managed to grasp 3D drawing but not very good with rendering part. thanks Steven Quote
CADMASTER1128 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Steven, I would try google Sketch-Up. You may be able to export this as a *.dxf file and the import it. I find Sketch-Up to be the EASIT rendering program for odd shaped items. (I only use AutoCAD to render my house plans.) Quote
StevenMc Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 thanks for the advice steve! i will give it a try is autocad rendering extremely difficult for shapes like this? as i said im a newb to all autocad 3d. Quote
CADMASTER1128 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I don't draw odd shapes. I only do house plans. Here a sample of some of the odd Sketch-Up drawing I have drawn. http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?t=38400&page=5 Quote
Cad64 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Rendering is rendering. It has nothing to do with the shapes of your objects. Or are you actually talking about building the model. Modeling and rendering are two completely different things. Quote
Lazarus Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I agree with Cad64.I was a bit confused when CADMASTER suggested to use Sketchup for the rendering part.I really think he should try the built in rendering engine of AutoCAD which i think is great, and if he's not satisfied he could move to another rendering package. CADMASTER1128 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I am not good with rendering items that are not house plans. So when I want to render items such as that Casting Machine, I use Sketch-Up. Does that make more sense? Quote
Dorian Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 here it is Well first you need to apply some materials first if you want it to be rendered good. And that i think its the hardest part when it comes to rendering. Quote

Material scaling and tiling. First you create new material, than apply texture maps, bump maps, and apply it to a certain point, and then play a bit with the material scale and tiling. But i wouldn't know if that is quite possible in your ship, cause its just one model. Quote
stevsmith Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 How many trips to Govan did that take? lol Looking good though mate. I had a rendering tutorial in pdf somewhere. I downloaded it from Autodesk. I'll have a looksie to see if I can find it again. Quote
