jay_blaze23 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I've been using AutoCAD for about 5 years now and I just completed my training in 3DSMax in an Autodesk Training Center. I have not learn how to use Revit Architecture and an Architect told me that everyone in the Architectural field are switching to Revit for good. meaning AutoCAD is not going to be use and may 3Dsmax as well.. I need help on obtaining a copy of Revit Architecture so that I can start learning it.. Please help! go to youtube and see GOOGLE VS AUTODESK Quote
ReMark Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 If you are a student or unemployed AutoDesk allows you to download and install some of its software at no cost. Do you fit either of these two categories? If not, then you'll have to contact an authorized AutoDesk reseller and purchase a legit copy of Revit. Quote

f700es Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 AutoCAD will be here as long as AutoDesk is alive in some form or fashion. Now it might not always be used in the same way it was say 10 years from now but it will be here. Look at release 2010, the line between AutoCAD and Max is blurring more and more. Sure AutoCAD will never have all of Max's abilities and I don't think it should. Revit is nice but not always the answer. If I was a residential builder I could get by with LT (or some other clone) and SketchUp and be just fine. I work for a medical casement company right now, and we use plain vanilla AutoCAD to design the boxes and to space plan with it. No need for Revit or Max. There is always a different solution. Quote
Cad64 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 3DS Max is not really an architectural tool. Sure it's used for doing architectural visualizations, but it's mainly used in the gaming industry and for producing 3D digital artwork. Quote
ReMark Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I don't see AutoCAD being phased out in the short term. Maybe long term. It's too much of a cash cow at the moment and its phase out may turn off long time, loyal AutoCAD users. Personal opinion. Feel free to disagree. Quote
DANIEL Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I've seen alot of programs come and go, and still AutoCAD remains. I'm sure rivet will find its place out there and do fine like many other fads I've seen, but its no AutoCAD and will not replace it, its simply not versitile enough as is. Quote
rkent Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Maybe it will not be used by Architects in the future (10 years?), BUT AutoCAD is used for many, many things so it isn't going away. There are lots of things that are not 3D that still have to be designed and drawn. P&ID's, Flow Diagrams, Elec Schematics, Elec. Controls to name a few. And there are lots of sites like mine where you draw lots of different things through out the year and if you can only have one program for all that it is going to be AutoCAD (or generic equals). Tankman Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 AutoCAD becoming past history? I doubt it. Besides, there'll always be us old guys usin' the obsolete versions of AutoCAD. It works for me! Quote
