NH3man! Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I don't know if this is possible but I would like to know if it is possible to set up the save and qsave commands to save to file to two different hard drives if the are there. What it is, we work off a network hard drive at work and now are having to go to the field and do some of the work and save to the laptop hard drive. Then have to come back to the office and remember to update the network hard drive and start working off of it. Thanks NH3man! Quote
ReMark Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 When you execute the SAVE command what hard drive would you like the drawing to be saved to? And when QSAVE command is used what hard drive would you like to save to? You know there is a way to synchronize files between a laptop and a desktop computer don't you? Quote
ReMark Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Synch files on two computers. http://www.tech-pro.net/howto_033.html Quote
NH3man! Posted July 26, 2009 Author Posted July 26, 2009 Thanks, ReMark! I think I will try the software. Seem to have some fail safes that I might need if I get in a hurry. Thanks again, NH3man! Quote
ReMark Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Well I'm glad that my suggestion was along the lines of what you wanted to do. For a moment there I was unsure about what you were asking with the save and qsave commands. Quote
NH3man! Posted July 26, 2009 Author Posted July 26, 2009 Well I was hoping that ACAD could save the file on the networked drive and the hard drive on my laptop at the same time if when I either saved or qsave. That way I alway am working off the latest version of the file when I go to the field or to a meeting. I usually do not make changes in the field I just draw revision cloud with some notes on what needs to change. Quote
ReMark Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Then you should have specified that you wanted to save a file in two different locations at the same time. I don't know if that can be done. I would have to give that some thought. Thank you for making that clearer. Quote
Tankman Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Set up your backtop program to save both to the server. Next step, backup to the laptop. Easy enough. This would indeed as ReMark said, "Different backups." However, incremental backups are fast. Would normally take just a few minutes to accomplish what you require. Quote

If you are working off the C drive then the file will be saved to C and to Network drive and visa-versa. You must create identical directory paths:EX. C:\projects\xyz H:\projects\xyz You must go into the Lisp file provided and change the H reference to your network drive letter. Test before relying on it. No warranties or guarantees. chulse Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I use Windows "Offlien Files" (also called Client Side Caching) on my laptop. It can be a bit buggy, but it works for me. I work remotely about half of the time. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/mobility/learnmore/offlinefiles.mspx http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307853 Make sure you also make any networked support or customization files/folders avaliable offline... And make sure you sync when you come back in the office. Quote
