Sagittarius62 Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Hello, and thank you for providing such a great resource for the CAD ignorant like myself. I have no formal training with AC, and have been thrown into using it at my work. I really am impressed with the program's capabilities, and I have barely scratched the surface. Here is my problem. Whenever I try to access the Layer Properties Manager the program just locks up. I am running XP Pro on a 3.2GHz Xeon with 3GB of RAM. Dual monitors running off an Nvidia Quadro FX 3450/4000 SDI. Last week, when I first started playing with layers everything was fine, and as of yesterday, this problem has surfaced. I don't know if I changed something I shouldn't have, or if there is a software or hardware malfunction. Any ideas? Quote
rkent Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Does the layer manager show on screen and then it is locked? Or does the layer manager not show and the program is locked? Quote
Sagittarius62 Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 As soon as I either click on the toolbar button or type "layer" in the command line, the entire AC window locks up. the Layer manager dialogue box does not appear. All the toolbars, and menu bars gray out, and the program becomes unresponsive. CTRL+ALT+DEL is required to close it. I assumed the first time it happened, that the Windows Task Manager would show AC as "Not Responding", but it shows as "Running". When the "End Program" dialogue box comes up it says that "This program is waiting for a response". Quote
rkent Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 As soon as this happens hit Alt+F4, are you back where you can work in AC? If so your layer dialog is off the screen. Go to windows, change resolution to a lower value, go back to autocad, start layer, move the dialog to the middle of the screen, go back to windows and set resolution where it was prior. Have you gone from two screens to one recently? This is a common cause of this. Quote
Cad64 Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Here is another possible solution: http://cadpanacea.com/node/95 Quote
rkent Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I knew there was another solution with keys but I couldn't come up with the sequence. Thanks. Quote
Sagittarius62 Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 Oh man I feel silly. As I said my new workstation has a dual monitor setup, and I recently switched the primary monitor from the right one to the left one, and went through some window placement wierdness as a result. I am at home right now, but will try out your solutions first thing in the morning. I suspect that will solve it. Thanks, and I will report my results Friday AM. Quote
Sagittarius62 Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 Thank you very much that did the trick. Quote
