What are the steps to be taken before entering into modelspace dimensioning

Kindly explaine me what are the steps to be taken while dimensioning in model space drawing. Also if i choose final layout scale as 1:100, or 1:200 in paper space, what factors to be considered before dimensioning.

The best thing you can do for yourself is to create a dimension style and make it associative. You should also follow some kind of standard. What country are you from and what discipline are you working in?

And you need to be patient too.

I am currently residing in dubai and recently joined ETA-ASCON company, dubai. My native place Kerala, India. can you explain the standards while dimensioning. I am using AutoCAD 2010.

You may also wish to educate yourself regarding the use of Annotative scaling as it relates to dimensioning. I suggest you take a look in your AutoCAD Help files and also consider picking up a good after-market AutoCAD book. Another source of information is your User's Guide.

Your company should have a set of standards already in place for all drawings. Typically this takes the form of a manual. Ask your CAD Manager for a copy.

An example of a European standard would be the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Their website is http://www.iso.org.

Are you doing architectural or mechanical drawings or something other than those two?

For further help you might also take a look at the tutorials posted here at CADTutor. Go to the top of this page and click on Tutorials. You want AutoCAD Tutorials > Beyond Basics > Dimensioning.

Something else just dawned on me. Are you drawing "to scale" in model space or full size?

I seem to remember a very long thread regarding model space dimensioning and paper space dimensioning, there were lots of Tips and hints stated there from a lot of forum members. Try to make a search of Thread. additionally try to view all related threads on it, not just the tutorials

It might be a bit too much for a neophyte to handle. As I recall it turned into a debate about dimensioning in model space versus layouts. There was, as it is pointed out, a lot of good information but it was mixed in with a great deal of personal (biased?) opinion and just a tiny bit of mis-information. That's just my personal opinion.

It does make for some interesting reading though.
