Drawing Template

Ok I am trying to produce some drawing templates for our Drafting department to use. Which include the title block rev block dimstyles and other usful info needed to start a drawing.

My questions is I am in AutoCAD 2010 and have made the template files which work great for me. The rest of the department is on 2009 and the cant open the file. Is there a way I can save a .dwt back in versions like you can a .dwg?

Looks like the only option is just .dwt, maybe you could save the .dwt as a 2007 .dwg and have one of the users with 2009 (or boot someone with 2009 outta there spot for a min) and save from there to .dwt

Save to 2007, then rename to .dwt.

Or save as version 2000, then everyone can use it.

put everyone on 2010 and the problem goes away

If you save back to 2000 you cover (hopefully) all the versions that could possibly be used. Hopefully no one is using AutoCad prior to 2000. Every three version Autodesk changes the code to drawing files. In options you can set 2010 to always save back to a previous version. This is usually a good idea when there is a transition like this to a newer version where the code is changed which lets all other users open these files. Once all other users are updated to 2010 then it is safe to save in the current version all the time.

all very true, but i think his point was that everyone there is already on '09 so, althogh it doesnt hurt, why save to 2000 and not '07 since '07 will cover everyone including himself?

agreed but once someone running 09 saves it it wont matter whether it was saved as 2000 or 2007 unless they all set there save as to 2000.

I was just answering the question at hand. Personally I would not save any further back then is necessary. Especially now that AutoCad files are compressed which is why any dwg file prior to 2007 is larger.

Well blimey. I just re-read that post I replied to and I can see now why the question of why. Since all users are on 2009 then of course going further back than 2007 would be pointless.
