I forum!

I just bought some pieces of hardware. The system is still in the mail, but I would be interested in what you CAD gurus think of the setup.

Goals:

- Best bang for the buck (as anyone would want I guess)

- As portable as a good CAD station could be. (We're in 2009, 3 feet high towers are so 80's....)

- no alien stuff (weird hardware, unknown brands, etc.... my turn is over in making things work, I now want them to work out of the box.)

- good support of D3D and OpenGL for Acad 2009.

What I bought:

- Shuttle SX48P2E barebone

- Intel 8500 dual core 3.16 GHz

- 1 bar of 4G Kingston RAM

- nvidia quadro fx 1800

Any toughts?

Well, for the price it will reach near 2000$ CAD (Canadian buck), approx. 1700 US, with a copy of win XP pro x64 and shipping and blablabla. And while it's not related to CAD, in this price I also have a DVD writer, wifi N card, and all it takes to make a PC usable.

A correct price I think. I've been lucky, I found the barebone shuttle "re-certified" on ebay for a fraction of the price. Some might be left if you are looking for a small box!

Anyone with an experience of the Quadro FX 1800?

Or with an experience of fitting such a big PCI card in such a small PC box?
