how do you do a dashed line in autocad? i did it yesterday but it isn't working today :(

Hilight, click, on the line you want to change.

Click on MODIFY and from the drop down menu, PROPERTIES.

You will then click on LINETYPE, select the type you need.

You might have to click on load, then select the dashed line.

If you don't get the result you want (to see).

MODIFY, PROPERTIES, LINE SCALE and adjust.

k, i did that and it just brought up this little box in the top left over top of the standard bar...and it didn't have any of the options you mentioned.

Actually, I would advise against overriding object properties as much as possible. This causes issues when xreffing your drawing into another drawing, so it's not a good habit to get into. If you want to create dashed lines, open your Layer Manager, create a new layer and set the linetype to dashed. Overriding object properties is ok if this is just a one off drawing, but if you start relying on this method for all of your projects, you will end up creating headaches for yourself, or others, down the road.

If your dashed line doesn't display properly, adjust the setting of LTSCALE.

Dashed line scaling is a nightmare, when you set the scale of a dashed line in properties you may then view it in paper space, do a print preview if the line is still solid you must lessen the scaled amount, if it has dissapeared alltogether you must increase it. hope this works for you it took me ages to get to grips with it.

They are, agreed there. I recommend people I get asked about this to make sure that the line is indeed on a layer that is dashed, and not overridden (like CAD64, don't recommen overrides in general, there are fairly easy ways to get rid of most overrides) and then get on with drawing. Keep LTSCALE to 1 as long as you can and don't worry about the line not looking dashed until the design is done, and you have decided what scales you're going to plot at. Then start fiddling.
