john anderson Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Hello. I am a technology teacher. Recently we had Inventor professional installed on our department pc’s. It is an excellent program. In a reasonably short time I had learned the basics. However, learning the program is one thing, teaching it to a class of 15 and 16 year old youngsters is something else. In saying that the youngsters have produced some impressive work. Assemblies of 3d models, exploded views, and sectional orthographic views of quite complicated products have been created. However, while I was giving a lesson the other day. Something went wrong for the first time. What should have been a relatively straightforward process simply did not work. I was teaching how to emboss letters on a flat surface. I made a work plane off the surface first/selected the work plane/selected sketch/selected text/made a rectangle on the work plane/typed the text onto the text window. So far, so good. However, when I clicked the ok box no text appeared on the work plane. Tried it again and again, but the text from the text window just disappears. Is there anyone out there who can help a slightly embarrassed and exasperated teacher regain some of his credibility? Regards john Quote
Gno Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Sounds like the font was set incredibly small. That usually happens to me alot, to the point where you can berely see it (.120). Highlight the text, Change the font size to .750 or higher just to make a mark. Hope that helps Quote
MarkFlayler Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Also I find that with Emboss you have to play with the flip arrows, it the first direction didn't work, edit the feature and flip the direction. Quote
shift1313 Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 are you using inventor 9 or inventor 2009? I would have to go with mark. Id say your direction was away from the surface you were trying to emboss on. Here is a screen shot for you. This is inventor 2010(same as 2009 would look). the little green arrow shows the direction(wrong in this case). edit, i wasnt pointing to the wrap to face box:) those icons will change the direction towards your surface/solid. john anderson Posted September 11, 2009 Author Posted September 11, 2009 Hi, Thank you Gno, Mark and Matt for your welcome contributions. The program I am using with the children is Inventor Professional 10 student version. The size of text in the window is given as 3.5mm. When I try a larger size the text still disappears. I do not get as far as the content Mark and Matt's contributions refer to. regards John Quote
JD Mather Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Hotfix http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=9229921&linkID=9242019 also Tools>Application Options>Hardware tab try selecting lowest setting OpenGL or Direct 3D and restart Inventor if Hotfix above doesn't solve problem. (and while you are at it search for and install all Hotfixes and Service Packs for v10. Quote
