rookie37 Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 I need to make a moving animation of a piston pump. It must be able to play on Windows media player How do I do this? Is it practical to make several Autocad drawings of a pump, make a slide show and convert it? If this is possible I'd like to know. I'm also open for other suggestions or ideas of animation software I could purchase. (SIMPLE. nothing real fancy) Rookie37 Quote
StevenMc Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Have you had a look at camtasia or camstudio? i dont know if that is what your looking for but its a suggestion... Quote
fuccaro Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 There are programs to produce movies and 3D Studio Max is one of them. It can import AutoCAD models or create them with the built-in tools and animate them. Or, if you are used with AutoCAD, you can create the models, move them and record the screen. Also there is a way to use a script file or a Lisp routine to move the objects in AutoCAD while you record the screen with Camtasia or Camstudio or other similar programs. Quote

You may also want to look into Hypercam... It is a free download (as long as you dont mind it saying "Unregistered Hypercam" at the top left corner.) Quote
rookie37 Posted September 26, 2009 Author Posted September 26, 2009 Will 3d studio max import inventor files? Quote
Cad64 Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 No, Max cannot Import Inventor files. But you can Export from Inventor in .dwg format and then Import the .dwg into Max. Quote
kencaz Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Do you have inventor or not?. If so why do you have to export anything? Just use Inventor for your animations. If you only have inventor files exported as dwg's that's another story. KC Quote
rookie37 Posted September 27, 2009 Author Posted September 27, 2009 I don't have Inventor. I'm researching if I should get Inventor or 3D studio Max I have used Inventor. It's very powerful and much more than I need. I'm not proficient at it. I can get up to speed but I have a feeling 3d Studio will be more of what I need in the way of movies I think it may be easier to learn. What are your views? Quote
Cad64 Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 It depends on what you need the software for? If you will be designing parts and assemblies that need to be built to exact dimensions, Max is not really the right tool for the job. And I would not recommend buying Studio Max if you just want to create animations of moving parts. That's like buying a car so you can listen to the radio. I really think you should stick with Inventor, but it's your call. You're the only one that knows exactly what you need. Quote

kencaz Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 You can make this simple animation in a couple of minutes in inventor and keep it as simple or get as complicated as you wish. KC Quote
