Error doing copy/paste, wblock, etc

We are having an issue with certain drawings when trying to use copy paste or the wblock command. When trying to paste all we get is _pasteclip on the command line, but it won't actually let us paste.

I have tried with no success to get the copy/paste to work in AutoCAD 2006 and AutoCAD 2008 (both with the latest service packs).

These are client drawings and I do not know their history (with what AutoCAD versions they were worked on).

I even tried to use Autodesks "find_2000_from_2007.exe" utility to see if it was related to the issue that some have had with AutoCAD 2007, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Any suggestions?

It appears that you have covered all the bases.

Have you tried WBlocking out the drawing and inserting it into a new one?

Not really. We have a large number of drawings that are giving us this issue and I don't know if we have the time to approach the issue in that manner.

One thing that I forgot to mention in my last post is that if we copy the entire drawing rather that a small section, sometimes it will allow us to paste.

Just try it on one drawing. What do you have to lose?

Tried WBlocking out the drawing and inserting it into a new one. Didn't solve the problem.

Do the drawings have Xrefs attached? Do they also have large scalelists? Kind of hunting in the dark here. Bear with me.

1. step. Run the audit command.. fix errors.. then purge all.. several times until there's nothing more to purge.. then run audit again.. .save the drawing..

2. Create a new drawing from template, try to use the command "insert"... browse the drawing.. and select it.. in most of the cases.. this will work.

3. Still no luck.. run the attached lisp on the problematic drawing...run the scalelistedit... reset scales to default.. open layers... delete layer filters... save the drawing.. (purge and audit..just in case) save the drawing

4. Create a new drawing from template... try to attach the problematic drawing as xref... or try insert again...

5.. still no luck.. try to convert the drawing to dxf... selecting maybe acad2000 dxf version... then close autocad... open the saved dxf.. and convert it to dwg... hopefully it will work.

6. Still no luck... guess there's no solution for the moment... I had to use a technic to rescue some things from a similar drawing... I couldn´t fix it anyway to extract anything from it.. Then I had to pull as much as I could using wmfout... and paste that wmf file into another good one... this way you could save everything but as vectors, goodbye all layers, dimensions, text, blocks, etc.. only vectors this way..

7. When all hope is lost, you can use autocad 2010 and its autodesk pdf printer.. and it will export layers and vectors.. and if you use autodwg pdf to dwg to convert that pdf... you could get text as text and layers...and all the rest as vectors.

Once we had another similar case where the problem was on a text object... if we get rid of all text in the drawing.. even text inside blocks... and purge audit... maybe you can then make the drawing to work....
