My boss wants to buy me a plotter, as I do most of my work from home. I plot all my dwg's @ A1.

He wants me to find a plotter and give him the details so he can order it.

So my question is:- For a maximum spend of £4000, what is the plotter out there???

Any help on this would be great

Cheers

For the size as you mentioed, there ought to be a K-boodle of them available.

Go to your ADD PRINTER function in M-S and you should see a big array of available and adaptable printer-plotters noted there. If something really modern it may not be listed, and then you have to go to manufacturers web-site for info and a driver.

FWIW, we use an HP T1100ps with a 24" roll feed. Nice unit but I have no idea of costs.

What is the largest sheet size you or your boss expect to be printing? Certainly not A1?

Inkjet printers/plotters are very popular. Do you anticipate a need for color? Do you want roll feed? Self-cutting? What other features might you like? Don't forget to think about adding in a memory card too.

99% of the time we print @ A1, but the odd time we do print @ A0. Mostly be printing in black & white but printing in colour for final issue drawings.

Must have roll feed and self cutting. What advantages does the plotter have, having a memory card?

ReMark, I don't know which side of the pond is backwards, but A1 over there is much bigger than our A size. It looks like it would be roughly equivalent to our D size.

At my office we use an HP 1050C which will do a 36" wide roll.

Ink is EXPENSIVE. -$120 per cartridge I think.

That occasional A0 will cost you dear. You will need a 36" wide plotter. Do you REALLY need it or can you get by with the odd selotaped together drawing?

Ok, so I'm looking for a a0 plotter with the spec i said earlier, but also have the ability to refill the ink at a low cost

I still have no idea of costs (you can tell I don't have to sign the forms, I just fill them out) but you can get an A0 version of the plotter I pointed out earlier. I guess all "professional" printers have separate tanks for each ink and a BIG black cartridge and this one is no exception.

The other thing to bear in mind is the physical size of the thing. Our A1 dominates a large office corner, I dread to think what the A0 version will look like at home! :)

I will look at the plotter that you pointed out before.

I'm sure I'll be able to squeeze it in somewhere lol

thanks for your help

If you only have to print A0 size paper occasionally you should check the cost of doing those plots through an outsource company and a plotter that handles A1 paper vs. the cost of getting a plotter that will handle A0 size
