I am pretty new to Autocad 2009 but I know how to draw and the basic CAD setup. However, I could never figure out how to do this. When you are looking at a blueprint is will say something like 1/4"-1' on the drawing. How do I do that to my drawings. At the time being I am just using 8.5"X1" paper. I want my scale to work on my drawings. As of now I will draw my drawing and fit it onto the screen somehow so it can fit onto the paper. For instance, say I have a rectangle that is 20'X40'. How can I set it up so that I can write on the sheet of paper that 1"=5'. Afterwards, I want to go to my paper and take my ruler and see that the 1" is proportional to 5' according the drawing dimensions. I have tried over and over and can't get it right.

Please help!

Thank you,

Draw everything full size in model space no matter if it is a drawing of a pencil or a full-sized jet liner. Switch to paper space and create a layout. Establish a viewport or viewports and apply the scale to the viewport.

Remember that a viewport is just a window looking back into model space so you can see the objects that you drew there.

Nothing wrong mentioned here, but also need to PAN the imported drawing that comes into paperspace view port, or due to BASE point, you may not see anything initially, then think all went wrong. After panning, you can rotate, resize etc. in order to make fit what you see at plotting/printing level. Remember, cannot show an acre parcel in paperspace to full size, etc. on some little deskjet sized paper.
