stiltz79 Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 I have a question about the install options on AutoCad 2009 LT. There is a Network Install/Deployment Option. We have 19 locations worldwide and would like to setup a server at one location to be able to deploy to our engineering group (Located at all locations) when they hire new people. 1. Is this the option I'm looking for? 2. What kind of impact would an install like this have on our LAN and WAN circuits? 3. Can I use an existing server like one of our file servers or SUS servers? I appreciate everyone's help ahead of time. Quote
SuperCAD Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 It should have given you an option for a network install during the setup when you put the disc in. As far as what it would do to your network and any server related questions, you'd be better off asking your IT department. Quote
stiltz79 Posted October 1, 2009 Author Posted October 1, 2009 First of all, I am in the IT Department. I came out here looking for answers because I was told this is a good place to start. Second, I see the Network/Install Option. If you read my post a little closer, I was asking for more details behind this choice. Quote
ReMark Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Hmmm. Seems we have a bit of a dust up. I would have asked if the OP had posed the very same questions to his AutoCAD reseller first. Quote
ReMark Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Well I do see that we're talking about AC LT '09 but maybe this might be of some use regarding LAN and WAN (current to 2007): http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=2895697&linkID=9240617 Quote
Tiger Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 My guess at why there are 39 views and no answer, is that this does not sound like an easy question. As such, I am sure that there are someone here that can help you - but it might not be someone that is here everyday. I can only say that my company have something like that, we install AutoCAD via an installation file that everyone can acess that have acess to the network. So it's possible, if I am right in that there is something like that that you want, but I have no idea how that would be set up Quote
ReMark Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 I don't see why you couldn't use an existing server. However, wouldn't a dedicated server be a better option? I'm thinking from the standpoint of drawing storage (files can be quite large), management/use of drawings (AutoDesk Vault?), speed, security, etc? Just thinking out loud here. Quote
ReMark Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 A good source of information is the AutoDesk Discussion Groups. There is one specific to networking and licensing issues. Find it here: http://discussion.autodesk.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=24 Note that one now has to "join" the forums but registration is free. One other option is over at the Discussion Forums of AUGI (AutoCAD Users Groups Internation). Membership is free but you must join. This is the best I can do. Network deployment is not my forte. Good luck. Quote
