vizitor Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 I am an extreme rooky that was given a crash couse on Autocad LT 2009. I use it for for As-Builts from existing Drawings for our Telecom Company. I Recently Recieved A set of drawings that Show all layers in the preview but when opened it gives a warning about being corrupted and needing to be recovered. that works to open the file but only part opens and i cannot turn several of the layers on /off. lock/unlock, freeze/thaw Etc. In the layer control panel those layers are shown faded and will not show when i try to highlight them. Is there anyone that can help a rooky? Quote
chelsea1307 Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 try opening via recover, and then auditing it Quote
vizitor Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 Recover is how i have been able to open the files. But i still have my problem with accessing the other layers? I have never encountered this before But i am an ignorant Newbie that was never given enough training before being put to work with this program. Quote
chelsea1307 Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 after you have it open do a saveas and give it a new name (like adding your initials to the end) then type AUDIT at the command line in your new dwg (the one with your initials if you choose that route) and answer yes to fix errors, see if that fixes your problems Quote
vizitor Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 I have tried that and it tells me there are no errors to fix. I am able to turn turn on and off the layers that are shown brightly on the layer control but the layers that are shown faded are restricted some how and i cannot manipulate those layers in any way? Quote
chelsea1307 Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 can you save down to 2000 and attach it here so others can take a look? Quote
vizitor Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 The file size exceeds the limit for the forum!! I would love to be able to get any help i can. Is this a filter Issue? I am just grasping. When i open the properties Manager it says all 227 layers of 227 layers are shown but the layers control shows only 25 layers that are highlighted and the rest are faded out and i can not see them or manipulate them in the drawing in any way. before i open the file i can see all layers on the file preview?? Glen Smith Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Could there be an XREF'd drawing in the mix? Type XREF at the command prompt and tell us what you see. Glen Quote
vizitor Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 In the File References it shows the (1) main plan is open, (2) unreferenced plans and (4) not found plans? Quote
Glen Smith Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 I don't have any drawings with XREF's handy right now, but from memory, Layers that come in with an XREF sometimes are greyed out. I know that previews of a drawing with corrupted Xref's can show the correct info, but upon opening, the data that you saw in the preview is gone. See if you can correct the XREF issues - that may solve your other problems. Glen Quote
vizitor Posted October 12, 2009 Author Posted October 12, 2009 To Chelsea1307 and Glen Smith Thanks for all the help and great advice. You helped me figure out that it was not my problem. My source for the Design had failed to send all referenced Plans. Now everything works Fine and i am on with it as usual. Thanks again for taking the time to help. Vizitor Quote
