Command Line vs. GUI

Recommended Posts

I've got a drawing that was refusing to change the color of a layer using the gui, but when I used "-layer" it changed no problem.

Any ideas?

If by "using the gui", you mean the layer drop down in the Properties toolbar, then maybe PICKFIRST is not set to 1.

I thought you could only change the layer from there RK, not the colour of the layer?

AutoNewbie- are you aware of the command LA (or LAYER, dropping the '-')? Might be what you're after?

In 2010 you can.

However, you are right. I didn't read the original question very well...

Having said that, PICKFIRST doesn't have any effect on the ability to change the color of a layer from the drop down....

I suppose the OP is talking about the layer manager vs using the command line.

Yeah I wasn't too sure what was meant by that... hopefully they will be back to confirm...

My guess ...

There is a forced color change over riding the color of the layer

Thanks All,

Yes, the particular problem on that day was that from the layer manager (2005) it would not let me change the color of a layer after I made a new layer. However I found that if I invoked the command line I could change the color of the layer in question.

But I've got many more probems wih this installation of 2005. It does the strangest things..loses printers and or plotters, sometimes changes made on source x-refs propagate to the sheets, sometimes they don't. The pointers in general seem to have a mind of thier own...(I guess I sould expec that from his old hacked copy of AC.....)

But I'm on 2010 now, and once I get past the new interface ( ribbon,... yeeesh. I wish MS could find some consistancy) things seem to be running much better. AT least it seems to be able to keep track of what sort of ouput devices I've got... ;)
