Hello,I am using AutoCAD2009 Version.I have a drawings drawn from sounding data of shallow ocean near the land.(Pls see the attachment as one sample).Unfortunately now I only have this drawings and file relevant to sounding data (like Excel file, .TXT) are not available. Since I need to extract X, Y coordinates and corresponding depth at each point[Depths are indicated by given number labels of drawing.(Assuming location =Decimal point of each number)], It is highly appreciated if anyone can explain me a easy method to solve this problem. As output, I need txt file includes each sounding point as (x, y, depth).Since I have no of drawings, to do this by manually is not possible for me.Regards,Clark

I am afraid that there are several large obstacles to finding an automatic solution to your problem.

1. The drawing has been saved on an Educational version of AutoCAD, and Dwg Trueview 2010 will not convert Educational versions.

2. The depths are two separate figures, i.e. 4.3 is really a "4" character followd by a "." followed by a "3". So the whole is not a usable text entity.

I expect a manual solution could be found. If the data needs to be extracted, then someone has to do it. Better start now, rather than waiting for an automatic solution that may not materialize. If there are lots of drawings, then it will take lots of time.

Thanks a lot eldon.

yes, now I am thinking same.I think I can do it by manually, using List command along each sounding line.Anyhow I have to type each depth manually.

The trouble with the original drawing is that it was prepared as a pretty picture, rather than an electronic data base.

I am afraid that manual is the only way that I can think of.
