Nick-H- Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I have just tried to change about 200 layers on a drawing to one layer, and it froze on me, and now says Acad not responding the computer is not really up to scratch is this a processor issue or graphics card, as it only has on board graphics Quote
JerryG Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Open your backup file and do it again. However this time pick only say 20 layers at a time. I think its just to much for your processor. Quote
Cadologist Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Go into your TASK MANAGER and kill the acad.exe process. REBOOT the computer, open up AutoCAD again and try again, keep in mind that moving that many entities at once may take a while, it may state 'AutoCAD not responding' but in actuality, it's working in the background. If that still doesn't work, use what was mentioned above by JerryG and just do it in stages. Quote
alanjt Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 If you are selecting everything and then trying to change the layer, try turning off Highlight. Quote
ReMark Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Computer not up to specs? And what might the "specs" be? Quote
Nick-H- Posted October 20, 2009 Author Posted October 20, 2009 Computer not up to specs? And what might the "specs" be? the computer im using is something stupid like a Pentium 3, with 2gb ram and onboard graphics.. I just did the same routine what i tried at work, on my machine at home, took 2 mins here, what took 30mins at work Im in serious need of an upgrade at work, ive just started my there though Quote
ReMark Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Think positive. When you do a task like this in the future you now know you have enough time to go around the corner to Dunkin Donuts and have a large coffee and two chocolate-frosted donuts. You're a lucky guy! Quote

JerryG Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Yea so dont ask for a new computer just yet - you might loose some breaks! Quote
Cadologist Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 .... might loose some breaks but being frustrated all day is alot worse. Besides, working on a computer all day, you should be taking 5-10 minutes away from the screen (or screens) per hour anyway to relieve eye strain, etc. Quote
ReMark Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 It's funny. The boss will find money if he needs a new leather desk chair but when it comes to buying you the tools of your trade (a new computer) there ain't no money to be found. Why is that? Quote

Isn't it always nice to be sitting in a raddy chair, only to see your boss moving around brand new chairs for the conference room and his office. Quote
alanjt Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Uh oh - see what you started Nick:lol: Sorry, I just had to get that one off my chest. Quote

I try to go toilet every hour haha! Quote
ReMark Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I'm lucky. Whenever I need a break I can use the excuse that I have to go out into the plant to "check a dimension". I think I've run out of dimensions to check. Quote
Nick-H- Posted October 21, 2009 Author Posted October 21, 2009 so about the autocad problem, what will be the issue, its doing it abit on my home computer stalling while i change loads of layers at once. and it considerably better than my work comp, dell dimesion 5150, 2gb ram Quote
ReMark Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 The first thing I would do is immediate PURGE the drawing. That might get the file size down somewhat. Quote
Nick-H- Posted October 21, 2009 Author Posted October 21, 2009 ive dont purge loads of times now Quote
