Old drafter Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Hi, I am using AutoCAD 2008. I have set the options to save DWG to 2004 format however they are unabled to be opened in AutoCad 2007? I also tried directly to save to AutoCad 2007 DWG format but again the drawing could not be opened in AutoCad 2007. Am I missing something here? Quote
dbroada Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 what error message are you getting. 2007 should be able to open any format prior to 2010. Quote

dbroada Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Just the sort of problem I hate. If it is a file format issue you should get "incompatible version" message rather than a machine hang. is this across several computers or just one? Can the machine open drawings its done itself? can the problem file be openned on any machine? Quote

Can the machine open drawings its done itself? can the problem file be openned on any machine? Hi, It was another user who alerted me to the problem. My machine cannot open the files in AutoCad 2007. However, I have just switched off 'visual fidelity' and resaved the file. This can now be opened in 2007 but some of the fonts in paper space do not display correctly now. I think the problem has something to do with annotative scales, etc. Quote
dbroada Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 good - since I know nothing about those I can duck out now and hope somebody else comes along that can help. Quote
Cadologist Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Make sure you run the -SCALELISTEDIT command (use the dash so it's done at the command line rather then as a dialog box, as it can cause hangups also). Use the 'RESET' option then save the drawing to whichever format, see if that works. Quote

Cadologist Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Strange problem, if your saving in ACAD 2008, it defaults to save to the 2007 format. It should open in ACAD 2007 cause it's 2007 format, that is weird. If you save it in 2004 format, it should open in any version past 2004 with no issues. Saving to 2004 format has a function to adjust the annotation scales so that they can still be seen in that format, that could change the fonts or visibility of it just cause annotation scales do that (one line of text, multiple sizes built in so how would it know which is the priority scale when saving to an older version). Does this happen on different drawings (or all ones) you send to that user? Is it JUST that user or others in your office or their office? You can try to use the process of elimination to try to find out if it's your computer, their computer, etc. Quote
