Draw a helix and a cylinder -booth with the same radius and with parallel axes.

To add to fuccaro's post. You'll probably want to sweep some profile and subtract it from your cylinder like a this circle profile.

kencaz - thats exactly what im trying to make but just with a straighter helix.

i dont mean to be a pain in the butt or anything, but could i get a walk through on how to get that onto a cylinder?

Like Fuccaro had stated, draw a cylinder the radius and height you want and then create a helix with the same base and top diameter as your cylinder. You can specify how many turns your helix has so try 1.

After you have your cylinder and helix surrounding it, created a profile, (such as a circle), who's radius equals the depth of cut you want on the cylinder.

Use the 'SWEEP' command choosing the circle as your object and the helix as the sweep path. This will create a tube around the cylinder that you will use to cut your groove.

Now use 'SUBTRACT' choosing the cylinder first then the helical tube to create the final rifled cylinder.

Hope this helps
