Rather than piggyback on an old thread, I moved your post to a new thread.

Have you searched the Autodesk KB?

I seem to remember a problem with version 2007 drawings saved down to 2004.

Also, do you have all the updates for 2009 installed?

Do check Autodesk's webside for a hot fix. And, you might search CadTutor, I believe I read 'bout the same problem on another post.

Welcome zalmon to the forums! Where might you be posting from?

all the updates were installed but still not working. but this is regarding with some files on which i was working earlier as every file i save it in 2004 format. I doubt whether the file has been corrupted, if yes is there any way to recover the corrupted files

So it immediately states 'drawing file not valid' even when trying to use the 'RECOVER' command via the File menu pulldown (no drawings opened, it checks the drawing before opening it), maybe there's an error but I doubt it, just another thing to try. Usually that message is in place when you try to open a newer version of the file (saved in say 2007 format) in 2004 ACAD or the like.

Honestly you might be out of luck, from my experiences, these are the things I have tried......

If the drawing won't open at all, use 'RECOVER'. Try other versions of AutoCAD to open the drawing (not valid can mean it was saved to a newer file format then your current AutoCAD version is). Try to view the drawing through AutoDesk Design Review or something similar to that (dwg viewer). Try to start a new drawing and 'insert' or 'xref' the drawing in, then explode or bind/insert it.

No clue why you can't open it, I mean technically if it's saved back to an earlier version, there is no reason why it shouldn't open. Will brainstorm here and thing of some other ideas for you to try.

Design Review cannot open DWG files. DWG Trueview can, but the engine is the same as AutoCAD, so results won't differ.

I compiled a few more alternatives a while back.. http://cadpanacea.com/node/18

I've had the same problem and i noticed it happens when i downloaded the file to a given folder, then moved the file to another folder and then tried opening it. So what i did was downloaded to any given folder and opened it right away, then do a "save as".

I don't know if i'll work for everyone but why not try it out...good luck
