copy views and viewport from one dwg to another

Hi Everybody,

I am looking for some information regarding views and viewport.

1. I have a viewport of a septic tank and manhole that I have drawn originally in one drawing set and arranged and finalized in a paper space viewport, I want to know if there is a way to copy the septic tank and manhole within the named view and viewport from one drawing to another instead of copying and pasting the septic tank and recreate a view and remodeled a viewport each time from one dwg to another.

2. All my plans are in two parts namely the drawing and the table with my name, project name, name of client and so forth. I have create a first paper space divided into two rectangles (one larger 75% of the screen approx for the drawings be it plans, sections, elevations... and a smaller one 25% approx for the table). I have each table i.e Ground Floor Plan, First Floor Plan, LHS Elevation, Septic Tank drawn and a view named for each one of them, a view named for each respective drawings. Then copy my first viewport by moving + "create a copy" and insert x two times the named views i.e the drawing first into its alloted space and then the table. Each time I have to readjust a little the scale of the table for it does not print i.e if it is 5.12 I need to rewrite it into 5.11 or if it is 6.7 I need to rewrite it into 6.6. Can any tell me of a more automated way to do this? All the tables are the same except for the title, the scale and the page number.

Can't you just save the drawing using a different name and then change the table?

Copy your original objects with a 0,0,0 base point and then paste them in the new drawing with the same base point. This way, when you copy your viewports over they will reference the same coordinates and your notes and dimensions will line up properly. You'll still need to re-associate the dimensions though.

You can do as ReMark suggested and save the file as a new name and make the required changes.

In answer to your first question I believe it's no. As an alternative to the other suggestions however, it's quite simple to do it through the design centre in 2 selections. To copy the details, click on design centre icon and find the drawing in the list when you see the drawing in the right hand window drag and drop it into the new drawing. type the insertion point as 0,0,0 to get it to locate into the correct position and return through the other options. To get the view ports go back to the design centre and double click on the base drawing and double click on 'layouts' you should then see a list of paper space layouts. Select the one you want and drag and drop it into your new drawing. You will the see a new new paper space tab which will have your view ports setup on it.

I can't think of a reason why you have to adjust the scale to get the table to plot but I would suggest you look at placing the table directly into paper space rather than model space or better still create a block and use attributes.
