dhdesigner Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 I need to create a framework for a glass roof that looks like a mosque roof shape, I can create the initial shape using revolve, but I don't know how to create the framework. I am using Autocad 2010 but if it would be easier to create in 3Ds Max I can do that as well, I have attached the section view close up of the roof design I am looking to create. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!! Quote
JD Mather Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 I would use the Frame Generator in Autodesk Inventor rather than trying to do this in AutoCAD. If you must use AutoCAD you might refer to this document. http://home.pct.edu/~jmather/content/CAD238/AutoCAD%202007%20Tutorial%208.pdf Quote
dhdesigner Posted November 10, 2009 Author Posted November 10, 2009 How similar to Autocad is Inventor from a user stand point? Quote
JD Mather Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Other than the fact the Geometry is Geometry not much difference. But I am comfortable with several CAD programs. Many people going from AutoCAD to Inventor or SolidWorks really struggle. My beginner students seem to pick up Inventor skills far more easily than AutoCAD. But experienced AutoCAD users have a lot of resistance and sometimes forget just how much work was involved in building their AutoCAD skillset. The first thing many Inventor trainers say is, "Forget everything you know about AutoCAD." I don't exactly agree to that, but the transition does take an open mind to get the different techniques used. Same for any CAD program. Quote
