Debster Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 It's been about a year since I last worked in Acad, recently I've started working again and my boss insists that I do all my work within the viewport(acad 2000. Is this the way most people are working nowadays? Instead of dviewing he creates new ucs views? Am I just old school?? Quote
rkent Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 It's been about a year since I last worked in Acad, recently I've started working again and my boss insists that I do all my work within the viewport(acad 2000. Is this the way most people are working nowadays? Instead of dviewing he creates new ucs views?Am I just old school?? Some work that way, I rarely do, maybe a little at the end of the project. Requiring a way to work like that is narrow minded and I don't see the point. Dview or UCS are both viable. I have been told by civil folks that dview is better than ucs in order to keep the origin point the same. After using dview you can still save that as a view. Quote
Debster Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 I've been working with Autocad for well over 10 yrs and had never heard of such a practice. I needed a little reassurance. I wonder if it's being taught that way now or what? He says ucs keeps the origin-just rotates the dwg to fit the plan layout..(we're civil folks) Quote
CJJ Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 I think it's just a matter of preference. I prefer to use UCS because I can name/save the views, which helps when I'm putting multiple viewports on one sheet. For example, I can name a UCS rotation for each road for my plan/profile sheets. Also, i think Dview Twist will always keep the origin the same, but with UCS you can specify any origin you like. Sometimes it might be handy to set the origin up at station 0+00 for specific alignments, even if you're not trying to rotate the views. All-in-all, it's just a matter of preference, but I think dview is simpler, while UCS gives you more control. Quote
skipsophrenic Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 I work in civils (rail) myself, and I do all my work in modelspace, only work through viewports towards the end to do the final "tidy-up" Quote
