Programmer needed for custom project....

I'm posting this over at TheSwamp.org as well. This site and over at the other one are the only two I trust as far as seeking some programmers.

My company is inquiring about some info regarding a customized program in AutoCAD for our estimators. It seems pretty simple actually, in a nutshell we need a program that counts all blocks in the drawing, and generates an Excel spreadsheet that itemizes everything for printing purposes. Also, it needs to tally up all lines/plines on each layer and give a total linear feet. That's really the extent of it. Maybe the only other thing is that on a certain layer, if the generated total line/pline could be broken up into quantities per 5' section.

Anyways, my company is obviously willing to pay but we are talking with our company officers about it tomorrow in a meeting to present this option. If anyone is interested please PM me. I will prefer to talk further on the phone about this, possibly a conference call depending on if the project gets green lighted for the need of a programmer. I'm just posting this to make sure it's an option when going into the meeting.

The DATAEXTRACTION command will do both of these.

Yeah, I even showed this to our VP of Estimating but there is a whole catalog that we'll be maintaining and they want to outputted Excel file to be structured well with our logo, blah blah blah for pretty email and printing purposes. In other words, they want it more completely automated to sort of "tie in" to our current bid sheets not to mention other things which I would be explaining more in detail at a later time. Thanks for the heads up tho, always appreciated.

No problem. I figured you already knew this, but that maybe it didn't fulfill your needs.... Maybe future readers of this thread can use it...?

Good luck.. keep us informed how this project goes....

Yes, please do !! It would be good for example to "rake" pipe (underground or plant wide), electrical cables, on and on. And the cabability to "rake" blocks such as fittings etc. in the same spreadsheet would be an estimator's dream. By layers, not so important at first blush, but a desirable option to some.
