AUTOCAD mys(t)ery illness

Hi,

We have had an increase in AutoCAD crashes since we went from AutoCAD 2006 to AutoCAD 2009 to find the cause we checked the log files of each workstation (22 in total) for one whole month and discovered that the crashes were indeed an array of some 15 different commands. However one major similarity was that only commands requiring a point to be picked caused crashes. AutoCAD would typically accept the command but as soon as we were prompted to pick a point or in some cases even a second point the CAD the program would abruptly terminate.

Dose anybody know of a reason to why this could be happening?

Have you tried the REPAIR option at all? Test it on one computer and see if it cures the problem.

Are these "picks" associated with commands being executed from within Lisp routines?

I also had some crashing problems after install of Acad 2009.

This corrected the problems that I was having.

Yes in fact many (not all) of the crashes are lisps, however the lisp modified ones will work 9/10 times; one of the original commands that crashes often too is the _Copy command.

We had downloaded the latest service pack but no fix found there, he have also downloaded the latest driver for a graphics card but no solution found there either?

If you do not use the Lisp routines does AutoCAD crash?

Yes the AutoCAD system still crashes such as with the standard _copy command.

What we have been able too see from the user log files we collected is that 95% off all crashes seam to occur when AutoCAD prompts for a point to be selected???

Other then that we are running out of leads and are progressing onto our DWT template, in futile hope maybe something has perhaps worked its way into the template (Some foreign lisp or the likes)???

Could this be an issue what can a DWT retain exactly and is it logical to assume that picking points might be an issue cause???

Maybe the Copy command was redefined by one of the Lisp routines.

Do you exchange drawing files with outside firms?

Maybe it is a new VBA macro virus. Is macro virus protection enabled?

I never heard of a macro virus, by the sounds of it they cant be detected by antivirus software?

I believe at least one may have been identified. I'm not sure of the details on how that was accomplished.

Again, is macro virus protection, within AutoCAD, enabled?

It is now, I’m going to wait to see what the results will be.

Just another thing we are testing as a possibility to our crashes is the ESET NOD32 antivirus software, our IT manager has discovered that it changes something in the data as it filters what AutoCAD is writing, he believes that because the data is being rewritten AutoCAD cant relocte it and thus crashes midway a command. Don’t exactly know what he means but has anybody experienced something along the lines as described by my IT manager???

Inteference by antivirus programs with the operations of other programs is not unheard of but I don't know if there are any known problems running AutoCAD in conjunction with ESET NOD32.

If a computer is disconnected from the company network can AutoCAD still be loaded? If so, can a drawing be created, saved to the hard drive and accessed again without crashing the machine?
