accurate sketch up dimensions?

When i import drawings i often see numbers used as dimensions that have no relevance, is it possible to draw lines and extrude heights precisely via some kind of date input?

Sure. As soon as you start to draw a line you will see numbers in the VCB (value control box). Before you finish your line you just type the length you wish and press enter. Of course you have to know what units your model is set to be it Architecutal, decimal, metric...
The same goes for the Push/Pull tool. Prior to finishing your extrusion just type the distance and press enter.
