extract point from excel files

I need to draw point from an excel files with X,Y coordinates & numerical data about the point. How can I do it automatically for every point in the file ( every point is on a line with X,Y,data column).

I m using autocad map 3d 2008.

I've written programs for aCAD that do this, but since every spread sheet is different, it's a custom thing.

I would save the file to ascii text (txt) then read it in with my program.

Land Desktop or any Civil package has built in stuff to do this. It's been years since I used my own.
