Startup Mystery in AutoCAD 2009

Recommended Posts

I am using AutoCAD 2009. I have saved a workspace, which appears in the customisation window, but every time I start up AutoCAD, no workspaces appear in the 'Gear' menu, and I have no ribbon tabs or panels.

What is going wrong here?

It takes me an hour to try to get back my previous settins each time. Im new to Autocad and love the software, but the learning process is taking so much longer because of this problem.

Is it a file path setting?

PLEASE, PLEASE advise, it is sooooooo frustrating.

Regards Chris

When did this problem first occur?

What steps have you had to take to retrieve your Ribbon in the past?

Hi Mark.

Ive had this problem since install. Autocad was a gift 18 months ago, but I never bothered to install, as I was using Max at the time, and didnt feel a need for Autocad. I installed for first time on Monday. Loved the look and ease of drawing, and have tried to learn since. Sadly, Ive spent every day trying to restore to previous state, but on startup the ribbon is never there. (No panel etc) Unfortunately, I cannot remember HOW I got it back the last two days, as its taken me about and hour and half each time, going back and forth, and NOT really knowing whjat I am doing !!

Sorry, I appreciate thats no help......

Will keep trying, until somebody can help, OR I can remember HOW I did it.

Cheers Chris

Just remembered what COULD be important.

AutoCAD seems to remember all when I close the program down and restart. Its just on PC start that all 'memory' seems to disappear. Any ideas?

AutoCAD is loaded on your "C" drive (under Program Files\AutoDesk) right?

When I tried CUILOAD command, there is no customisation groups visble. When I click on 'browse' for file it brings up a 'Application Data' directory /Support which contains some cui files. (acad.cui, custom.cui etc) If I click on any of these, then 'Load', nothing happens.

The install was to C:\Program Files\Autodesk, yes.

ReMArk,

Sorry, I feel SUCH a Muppet!!

My install was NOT to Program Files\Autodesk, just to Program Files!!!

I have moved the folder into my Autodesk folder so now C:\Program Files\ Autodesk\AutoCAD2009 and seems to have cured my problem.

Why? I have no idea.

Now I just have to sort out the default cui load, as at present every toolbar shows up in center of screen. But This is the least of my problems I think.

THANK YOU so much for your help. GREATLY appreciated.

(I feel about 2 inches high at present! :D)

You ask...Why? Most likely AutoCAD was having a difficult time locating what it needed based upon the default Paths set up when the program is installed.

Toolbars? I thought you were missing the Ribbon?

Not sure how much I may have helped but you're welcomed just the same.

now that you have all the pathing corrected, you should be able to place the toolbars where you want them and get rid of the ones you dont and maintain that when you close and open again

After setting up your workspace the way you want it (Ribbon, menu bar, toolbars, etc.) save this as a new Profile. Name it Chris - 2D Drafting or Chris - 3D Modeling or whatever suits you.
