Tiger Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 First qustion, No. Autodesk Maya is availible for Mac but that is not the same as AutoCAD: Second question, I don't know. I know that it has been discussed several times here though, might be an old thread around with some suggestions. Quote

Thanks in advance Huygen I haven't used it myself but I believe 'Archicad' is a program a few people on my course at uni use that use macs, a few of my tutors do as well and claim it to be better then autocad. Cad64 Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 You can run Autocad on a Mac, but you have to do it via Bootcamp Quote
cedwards Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I personally like Parallels better than Bootcamp. You can have both OS running at the same time. Quote
BIGAL Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 The bottom line is pc's run on the Intel chip set and Macs normally on motorolla chip set they are like chalk and cheese. Autocad has to be recompiled to run on a different platform. Years ago you could buy Autocad SUN MAC DEC and PC Quote
Coosbaylumber Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Way back when, Autocad came ready for installation on to a MAC. That was however back in the days of R-10, and it came on one of the very first versions of a CD-Rom then too. Tha ROM drive was about $500 for a MAC back then too. As of few years ago, when ordering, just specify as that you are on a Mac O.S. and the disk can be re-written for you. And the conversion, ain't cheap either. Wm. Quote

The last powerpc chip was the G5 which was built by IBM. The G4 was the last Motorolla based Mac. To OP, yes there is no version of AutoCAD that can run on OSX. You either have to run in a virtual mode (Parallels or VMware) but you will not get true 100% hardware support and performance will suffer. The best is to run under bootcamp which just boots the Mac into Windows instead of OSX. I also run OSX at times and there are several dwg editors that you can use. TurboCAD for Mac is a nice option HighDesign is neat There's always PowerCADD Google these and see which ones work best Good luck Edit: added links Quote
